OK GUYS so HERE'S the STORY:
This bike was brought into the US by a Maico factory rider in 1972. It was his practice bike. Mods included strengthened swing-arm, blueprinted 400 motor, gas girling shocks, and special coned downpipe. Although it is NOT a true WORKS bike, it was used as his practice bike back in the day here in the US. Bike was painted WHITE similar to how it looks now. I cannot verify this story as original rider has died, so believe it or don't believe it that's the story relayed to me. Purchased from second owner who bought it from this factory rider over 20 years ago. There are supposed to be pictures in magazines of this bike being raced, but I don't have them.
About this bike:
Stunning resto of a rare competition Maico. I am the third owner of this original wide frame square barrel MaIco. Brand new 1st over top end. Bike runs amazing. Bike looks amazing. Has vintage Metzler tires on it currently and they are at around 99% tread remaining (front tube will not hold air). Original seat has been correctly restored with rivets on both sides. New brakes (this Maico STOPS!), bearings, seals, and motor has new ELECTRONIC IGNITION. New clutch, etc. etc. Original 'ankle buster' foot pegs replaced with nice period correct vintage cleated versions. Folding shift lever. Original rear brake lever & rods.
Original vintage gas Girling shocks are included but newer OHLINS shocks on it now. Forks and shocks work perfectly with no leaks and excellent damping. Chrome on both fork tubes are beautiful.
Includes impossible to find ORIGINAL SIDESTAND.
Beautiful polished and painted aluminum tank, Maicos Only PFR pipe (original coned down pipe included and it is almost perfect).
Correct Bing 54 carb is included but Mikuni conversion on it now for ease of jetting. Magura grips and correct Magura controls, perfect vintage (non-stock) low bars used and preferred by factory rider, Akront rims (polished and wheels completely rebuilt), seat & cover, correct FIBERGLASS fenders and airbox, new Uni filter, new chain, sprockets, etc. Compression release works well.
This is a beautiful bike that has had everything done to it. Runs as good as it looks. Needs nothing.
